Angels' Lucroy suffered concussion, broken nose in collision
Los Angeles Angels catcher Jonathan Lucroy told ESPN he suffered a concussion and a broken nose after the vicious home-plate collision with Houston Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick on Sunday.
Lucroy also disclosed he expects to be released from hospital at some point on Monday.
The amount of time the 33-year-old will miss as a result of his injuries is not known.
Despite his ailments, Lucroy still made it to his former Lafayette coach's funeral in Houston, Kristin Askelson of the Acadiana Advocate reports.
Calls for Marisnick to be suspended have been echoed throughout baseball since the frightening incident. Angels manager Brad Ausmus acknowledged the play wasn't clean, and St. Louis Cardinals backstop Yadier Molina called it "bullshit."
Marisnick was also disappointed in himself.
"That was a bad play for me," he said, according to Mark Berman of FOX 26 Houston. "I was running, and I see him take a step kind of up the line like he's gonna drop and go back. So I tried to take an instep and slide headfirst on the inside corner (of the plate). I watched the play again ... he just drops right in front of me.
"It's terrible. I wish him the best. I hope he's OK. I'm gonna reach out to him."
