Report: Yankees won't necessarily move Frazier despite Encarnacion trade

The New York Yankees' acquisition of veteran slugger Edwin Encarnacion from the Seattle Mariners over the weekend was bad news for Clint Frazier.

Although it seemed like the writing was on the wall, the Yankees' next move reportedly isn't necessarily to trade Frazier in a bid to upgrade the starting rotation, sources told SNY's Andy Martino.

Nevertheless, the Yankees continue to speak with teams about rotation upgrades and could discuss Frazier and pitching prospect Deivi Garcia during negotiations, Martino adds.

New York will be "careful and deliberate" in considering whether or not to move Frazier, who isn't eligible for free agency until 2024, writes Martino.

Frazier, who was enjoying the best offensive season of his major-league career, was optioned to Triple-A to make room for Encarnacion on Sunday. The outfielder was caught off guard by the demotion, calling it "a tough pill to swallow."

The 24-year-old hit .283/.330/.513 with 11 home runs and 34 RBIs in 53 games but was criticized for some defensive blunders and refusing to speak with the media during his stint with the big-league club.
