The New York Mets have signed veteran right-handed pitcher Ervin Santana to a minor-league contract, the team announced Friday.

Santana, 36, opened the season with the Chicago White Sox but was designated for assignment in late April after posting a 9.45 ERA in 13 1/3 innings across three starts. He will report to the Mets' Class-A affiliate in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Formerly a lock to pitch close to 200 innings in a season, Santana has been sidelined by injuries since the start of 2018. He's been limited to 28 major-league innings pitched in that time.

During his last full season in 2017, Santana went 16-8 with a 3.28 ERA in 211 1/3 innings with the Minnesota Twins.
