The Los Angeles Angels were on the receiving end of some bad luck Monday, as Shohei Ohtani and Andrelton Simmons were injured on back-to-back plays in the eighth inning.

Angels superstar Mike Trout wants his teammates to stay positive amid the injuries.

"We can't say it's going (to) derail a season," Trout said following the Angels' 3-1 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Monday, according to The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya. "We've got a lot of guys in the minor leagues that can come up and fill in, guys that have been up here before. We'll go from there."

Ohtani was hit on his right ring finger by a 94-mph Taylor Rogers fastball. The 24-year-old, noticeably in pain, was looked at by a team trainer.

Immediately following Ohtani's injury, Simmons hurt his ankle while trying to beat out a grounder and had to be carried off the field.

Both players had X-rays after the game. Simmons was diagnosed with a sprained left ankle while Ohtani's tests revealed no break in his hand. They will be re-evaluated Tuesday.

"More concerned right now about Simba's injury than Shohei's," Angels manager Brad Ausmus said, according to MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger. "Shohei's (injury), by all indications, he should be fine. Quicker time frame. We don't know what Simba's time frame is. That's probably the bigger concern right now. We don't want to lose either one of them, but it seems like the injury to Simba at this point might be a little bit more dire. But we'll know more tomorrow. We don't want to guess as to what the final diagnosis will be."

Ohtani has appeared in 12 games for Los Angeles since returning from Tommy John surgery and is hitting .250/.345/.375 with two homers and eight RBIs.

Simmons leads the Angels with 56 hits and holds a career-best .298 average. The durable infielder has played fewer than 146 games during a season only once since 2013.

The Angels sit fourth in the AL West at 22-25.
