Edwin Jackson is heading back to Oakland, as the Athletics are close to signing the right-hander to a minor-league contract, a source told Julian McWilliams of The Athletic.

Jackson, 35, inked a similar deal with the A's in June 2018. He joined the team's rotation later that month and ended up turning in his best season as a starter since 2011, posting a 3.33 ERA (126 ERA+), 1.22 WHIP, and 68 strikeouts in 92 innings while helping the Athletics earn a surprising playoff berth.

Jackson reportedly rejected a major-league contract from Oakland during the offseason, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

The well-traveled 16-year veteran sports a career 104-123 record with a 4.60 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and 1,456 strikeouts over 1,892 1/3 innings. An All-Star in 2009, Jackson also threw a no-hitter with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2010 and won a World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011.

He's pitched for 13 teams during his career, a mark that ties him with Octavio Dotel for the most in MLB history.
