Report: Astros make 2 short-term offers to Keuchel
The Houston Astros have made both one- and two-year offers to free-agent left-hander Dallas Keuchel, sources told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Houston's offers are not in the range Keuchel is seeking and his desired terms are not known, Rosenthal adds.
Keuchel rejected the Astros' qualifying offer in November, but team owner Jim Crane hinted at a possible reunion last month.
The front end of the Astros' starting rotation is solid with Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole leading the way, but the club is already missing Josh James - its projected fifth starter - after he went down in spring training with a quadriceps injury.
Houston added veteran left-hander Wade Miley in January to add some pitching depth, but the team has continued to reportedly express interest in bringing Keuchel back.
The 2015 American League Cy Young winner is also reportedly drawing interest from the Philadelphia Phillies.
Philadelphia also appears to be interested in a short-term deal with Keuchel, as the team doesn't want to block any of its highly-touted pitching prospects, per reports.
Keuchel, 31, went 12-11 with a 3.74 ERA in 204 2/3 innings for the Astros in 2018. The two-time All-Star gave up a league-high 211 hits last season.
