Red Sox owner calls Wainwright's midseason strike comment 'crazy'

The owner of the Boston Red Sox doesn't buy Adam Wainwright's speculation that frustrated players might strike in the middle of the season.

The St. Louis Cardinals right-hander said last week that a strike is guaranteed to happen "unless something changes" and added, "I'm just worried people are going to walk out midseason."

Informed of Wainwright's comments on Monday, John Henry disagreed.

"Midseason, this year?" the Red Sox owner told reporters, including Justin Leger of NBC Sports Boston. "That's crazy."

Several players have recently spoken out about the slow-moving free-agent market, including Jeff Samardzija, who said a strike may be the only answer, and Pat Neshek, who believes the players signed a bad CBA.

Henry said, "A lot has been said about the market, the free-agent market. But it's a free market. A free market doesn't always do what you want it to do."

Many free agents remain unsigned with spring training underway. However, the San Diego Padres shocked many by reportedly agreeing to a monster 10-year, $300-million contract with infielder Manny Machado on Tuesday.
