After reports surfaced that the Chicago White Sox had an eight-year deal on the table for Manny Machado, a new report suggests the actual offer is a seven-year contract worth $175 million, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.

The seven-year deal - presented two weeks ago, according to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports - is a far cry from the eight-year, $250-million offer believed to have already been made.

The superstar infielder is reportedly seeking a record-breaking deal in excess of the 13-year, $325-million contract Giancarlo Stanton signed, sources told Jon Heyman of Fancred.

Instead of one of the most lucrative free-agent contracts in baseball history, however, Machado is looking at a deal comparable to what first baseman Mark Teixeira got 10 years ago. Prior to the 2009 season, the New York Yankees signed Teixeira to an eight-year contract worth $180 million.

The Philadelphia Phillies were still believed to be in pursuit of Machado as recently as this past weekend, while the Yankees have shown some interest in the four-time All-Star.

Machado switched back to his natural position of shortstop last season after winning a pair of Gold Gloves as a third baseman. In 162 games between the Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Dodgers, Machado authored a .297/.367/.538 slash line with 37 home runs and 14 stolen bases. Due to being traded midseason, Machado's impending free-agent contract is not tied to draft-pick compensation.
