Zaidi says Giants aren't actively pursuing Bumgarner trade

The San Francisco Giants' front office isn't engaged in active trade talks involving left-hander Madison Bumgarner, according to Farhan Zaidi, the team's president of baseball operations.

Zaidi joined the Murph and Mac show on KNBR 680 on Friday, and he addressed the Bumgarner rumors.

"Nobody is making any outgoing calls on Madison Bumgarner," Zaidi said, via the San Francisco Chronicle's Henry Shulman. "If a team calls about any of our players, we're in a position where we have to listen."

Zaidi added that the team's goal is to be competitive in 2019, and he sees the four-time All-Star as a "central cog" in that effort. He also didn't dismiss a recent report from MLB Network's Jon Morosi connecting the Giants and Milwaukee Brewers for a potential Bumgarner swap.

However, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the Brewers aren't currently talking to the Giants about a trade.

The 29-year-old ace only logged 129 2/3 innings in 2018 after a bone broke in his pitching hand when a line drive hit him during a spring training game. He still finished the season with a 3.26 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 109 strikeouts.
