Report: Yankees, LeMahieu agree to 2-year, $24M deal
The New York Yankees have agreed to a two-year, $24-million deal with second baseman DJ LeMahieu pending a physical, a source told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
LeMahieu's deal could take the Yankees out of the running for Manny Machado, the All-Star slugger they were reportedly pursuing.
The Yankees plan to use LeMahieu, a three-time Gold Glover, in a versatile role around the infield. He's expected to play second, first, and third base, according to YES Network's Jack Curry.
LeMahieu authored a .276/.321/.428 slash line with 15 home runs and 62 RBIs in 128 games for the Colorado Rockies in 2018. Defensively, LeMahieu was tops among qualified second basemen in defensive runs saved last season at plus-18, according to Fangraphs.
The 30-year-old won the National League batting title in 2016, hitting .348.
LeMahieu is the latest addition to the Yankees' roster during a busy offseason for general manager Brian Cashman.
The team has also re-signed Zach Britton, J.A. Happ, Brett Gardner, and CC Sabathia, inked Troy Tulowitzki to a one-year deal, and traded for James Paxton.
