The New York Mets traded catcher Kevin Plawecki to the Cleveland Indians for right-handed pitching prospect Walker Lockett and infielder Sam Haggerty on Sunday, the team announced.

Plawecki is expected to compete with Roberto Perez for the Indians' catching job after the team traded Yan Gomes to the Washington Nationals last month.

The 27-year-old Plawecki played in 79 games for New York last season. He finished with a .210 batting average and .685 OPS. He also threw out 23 percent of base-stealers, which was five below the league average.

Perhaps his most memorable moment of the season came after Plawecki blocked a Noah Syndergaard pitch, which left an interesting mark.

Coming back to New York in the deal is Lockett, a 24-year-old who went 0-3 with a 9.60 ERA in three starts with the San Diego Padres last season, and Haggerty, who spent parts of 2018 in Double-A and Triple-A in the Indians' system.
