The Los Angeles Angels are showing interest in free agent catcher Yasmani Grandal, sources told Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

Grandal, 30, is likely the best hitting catcher remaining on the open market after blasting more than 20 home runs in three consecutive seasons. The one-time All-Star has spent the last four campaigns with the Los Angeles Dodgers, slashing .238/.337/.453 over 510 games.

The backstop rejected a qualifying offer from the Dodgers following the season so any team that signs him will have to forfeit a compensatory draft pick to his former squad.

The Angels are currently poised to enter 2019 with Kevan Smith as their starting catcher; Grandal would represent a significant upgrade.

The catching landscape got a little clearer Sunday when it was reported the New York Mets had signed Wilson Ramos to a two-year contract. The Mets were one of the teams interested in Grandal before inking Ramos.
