D-Backs prospect hit in head by 103-mph liner from Vlad Jr., walks off field

Arizona Diamondbacks pitching prospect Tyler Mark might be counting his blessings following Wednesday's Arizona Fall League contest.

In a very scary moment at Salt River Fields in Talking Stick on Wednesday night, Mark - who is pitching for the Salt River Rafters this month - was drilled in the head by a 103.2-mph line drive off the bat of Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a power hitter and MLB's consensus top prospect.

Trainers from Mark's AFL team tended to him as he lied down on the field for several minutes. Incredibly, he was able to walk off under his own power, according to Josh Norris of Baseball America.

There was no immediate update on Mark's condition.

Mark, 23, was drafted in the sixth round in 2015 by Arizona out of Concordia University in Irvine, Calif. He split the 2018 season between High-A Visalia and Double-A Jackson, posting a 2.29 ERA and three saves while averaging almost 11 strikeouts per nine innings over 45 outings.
