Former All-Star Lenny Dykstra indicted by grand jury on multiple charges

A New Jersey grand jury has indicted former New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies star Lenny Dykstra on multiple charges relating to an alleged incident with an Uber driver in May, according to The Associated Press.

Dykstra has been charged with one count each of possessing cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as a count of making terroristic threats. All three charges are considered third-degree crimes.

He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison if found guilty, partly because of his prior convictions, according to Suzanne Russell of the Bridgewater Courier News.

"A grand jury will indict a ham sandwich," Dykstra's attorney Matthew Blit told TMZ Sports on Wednesday. "The evidence in this case overwhelmingly confirms Lenny is innocent."

New Jersey police arrested Dykstra in May after he allegedly pulled a gun on an Uber driver, pointing it at his head and threatening to kill him when the driver refused to change destinations. The driver then drove to a police station, where the arrest was made.

Less than a month later, Dykstra told reporters that the Uber driver had threatened and kidnapped him and that he called 911 because he was "in fear of my life."

When he was arrested in May, police didn't find a weapon in Dykstra's possession, though they did claim that drugs were discovered.

The 55-year-old appeared in three All-Star Games during his 12-year major-league career. He won a World Series with the Mets in 1986 and helped the Phillies to a National League pennant in 1993.

Dykstra has had several legal run-ins since retiring from baseball. In 2013, he served time in prison after pleading guilty to bankruptcy fraud and money laundering.
