The New York Mets believe all is well with Yoenis Cespedes despite the outfielder's sudden revelation Friday that he may require major offseason heel surgery.

Mets manager Mickey Callaway revealed a day later that he was unaware of Cespedes' latest issue, which came as a surprise given the slugger was activated from the disabled list hours before his comments. On Sunday, assistant general manager John Ricco stood by his skipper, clarifying that all parties remain on the same page regarding the 32-year-old's health.

"I don't think it's a disconnect," Ricco said, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post. "It's not like he has been saying this for months and we just haven't been listening. … To our knowledge, the first (time) he even was considering this surgery was when he said it on Friday."

Cespedes spent over two months on the DL battling hip and quad injuries before returning to the lineup Friday against the Yankees. The Mets had hoped to use him as the designated hitter during the weekend series in the Bronx, but he didn't feature in Saturday's contest. The team also announced that he'll now undergo an MRI with a specialist.

Ricco maintained the surgery, which would keep Cespedes out of action for approximately eight-to-10 months, is an option that both team and player hope to avoid.

"It's something that he has managed and we have managed with him," Ricco said. "It's one of those things he has good days and bad days with it. He brought up surgery with it - surgery is kind of a last resort. The way you treat this is with various conservative methods, whether they be stretching, orthotic, anti-inflammatories, and that is kind of how he’s managed those symptoms over the past few years.

"For this condition, surgery is (a) way to get there, but you hope not to get there and get through it with the conservative treatment."
