The San Diego Padres reportedly made a gigantic commitment to first baseman Eric Hosmer on Saturday, and that could mean an end to outfielder Hunter Renfroe's tenure with the organization.

After the Padres signed Hosmer to a reported eight-year deal, trade interest in Renfroe has picked up, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi, who names the Atlanta Braves as a team in need of an outfielder.

Hosmer's acquisition will move Wil Myers - who was the Padres' starting first baseman last season - back into the outfield, which could make Renfroe an expendable asset, especially with Manuel Margot and Jose Pirela expected to take the other two outfield spots.

Renfroe appeared in 122 games for the Padres last season and showed plenty of power (26 home runs, 58 RBIs, .467 slugging), but had a hard time getting on base (.284 OBP) and also struck out 140 times in 470 plate appearances.

The 26-year-old was optioned to the minors last August to help him get back on track before returning in September. After his recall to the bigs, he posted a .980 OPS in 11 games, which included six home runs and 11 RBIs.

Renfroe, the13th overall selection of the 2013 MLB draft, isn't eligible for free agency until 2024 and his earliest eligibility for arbitration comes in 2020, which also makes him an attractive trade piece.
