Molina claps back at Contreras: Respect the ranks, rook

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

After expressing his admiration for Yadier Molina and Buster Posey this past weekend, Willson Contreras, the Chicago Cubs' hubristic young catcher, raised some eyebrows when he added that he "know(s) that (he's) going to be better than them."

Not surprisingly, two of the eyebrows raised belong to Yadier Molina.

On Wednesday, Molina shot back at Contreras on Instagram, posting a photo of himself, Posey, and Salvador Perez from the 2015 All-Star Game with a caption that, as translated by theScore, reads: "Respect the rankings NOVICES!! Here with those who have proven that they're the hard ones!!"

Indeed, though Contreras has shined since debuting with the Cubs two years ago, the 25-year-old has a ways to go until he's mentioned in the same breath as Molina and Posey, both presumptive Hall of Famers. Between them, Molina and Posey have 13 All-Star appearances, nine Gold Gloves, five Silver Sluggers, one National League MVP award, and five World Series rings.
