Christian Yelich is at his wit's end with the new Miami Marlins ownership, as his agent, Joe Longo, said the outfielder's relationship with the team is "irretrievably broken" and that his client "needs to get on with his career," according to a report from Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.

"He loves the city of Miami," Longo added. "He loves the fans. He's had nothing but a good experience in South Florida, and he feels sorry where they ended up. But I think having him report (to spring training) and attempting to include him moving forward is going to be uncomfortable for both sides."

The 26-year-old Yelich has been a fixture in trade rumors since the Marlins began their fire sale, shipping Giancarlo Stanton, Dee Gordon, and Marcell Ozuna away in separate deals. A report surfaced in mid-December that suggested Yelich was unhappy with the club, but was willing to meet and discuss the future rebuilding plans of the team.

Yelich is under contract through the 2022 season, and is due a maximum of $58.25 million after signing a seven-year pre-arbitration deal with the Marlins prior to the 2015 campaign.

"They have a plan," Longo said, "I respect that plan, but that plan shouldn't include Christian at this point in his career. He's in the middle of the best years of his career, and having him be part of a 100-loss season is not really where (we) want to see him going."
