Watch: Bautista goes oppo taco for 1st time since 2015
Jose Bautista homered at Rogers Centre on Wednesday night.
On the surface, this seems rather ordinary since Bautista has now hit 322 career home runs, with 279 of them coming in a Toronto Blue Jays uniform, good for the second-most in franchise history. But Wednesday's leadoff home run off Baltimore Orioles starter Wade Miley was actually the rarest of sights, as Bautista homered to the opposite field - the first time he's done that since Sept. 12, 2015.
Indeed, until Wednesday a Joey Bats oppo taco had become almost as mythical in baseball circles as the gyro ball. Bautista has hit more home runs than any other player in baseball since 2010, but only seven of those homers have gone out over the right-field fence - an average of just under one such home run per season.
Bautista's homer also moved him into sole possession of fourth place on the Blue Jays' all-time RBI list with 737, according to Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun. The 36-year-old is only three RBIs shy of tying George Bell for third place.
