Paul Pogba's competitive return for Juventus is potentially on hold after the midfielder tore his meniscus.

"Following complaining of pain in his right knee, Paul Pogba underwent radiological examinations that revealed a lesion of the lateral meniscus," Juventus' statement read Monday.

"In the next few hours, he will undergo a specialist orthopedic consultation. Therefore, in order to continue treatment, he is not taking part in the trip to Dallas."

Juventus' Serie A campaign is scheduled to kick off on Aug. 15 against Sassuolo. Pogba made his non-competitive comeback for the club when he played the first half of Friday's 2-0 friendly win over Chivas Guadalajara in Las Vegas.

The Italian giants meet Barcelona at Dallas' Cotton Bowl on Tuesday before rounding off the U.S. leg of their preseason tour with Saturday's match against Real Madrid at California's iconic Rose Bowl venue.

Pogba, 29, re-joined Juventus on a free transfer this summer following the expiration of his Manchester United contract. He previously represented the Bianconeri for four seasons - a spell in which he hoarded four Serie A titles while winning the Coppa Italia twice and the Supercoppa Italiana twice. United paid a then-record €105-million fee to re-sign their former youth-team player in 2016.

The Frenchman started only 16 Premier League games last season due to injury issues and not being a guaranteed starter under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick when fit.
