AC Milan made a pair of front office announcements Friday by naming club legend Paolo Maldini their new technical director and appointing Champions League winner Zvonimir Boban as their chief football officer.

Maldini previously served as the team's sporting strategy and development director before Friday's promotion, which sees the former Milan captain succeed Leonardo after the Brazilian announced his departure in May.

"Paolo embodies that quality and those values that are the building blocks of our club," Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis said. "I am happy to have him at the helm of our sporting area. With him, we will be able to build a modern club, formed by professionals of the highest quality. It will be a journey we will pursue together to achieve a challenging and compelling project, one which will require great energy and dedication.

"I am confident Paolo will be able to project his experience, his vision, and his leadership. Paolo is an integral part of AC Milan and knows the way to success. He will be an important point of reference for everyone."

Maldini won seven league titles and five European trophies during an illustrious Milan career that spanned 25 seasons.

Meanwhile, Boban, who won the Champions League with Milan in 1994, becomes the team's first-ever chief football officer and returns to the club following his time at FIFA where he served as deputy secretary general.

A statement on the team's website reads: "Boban will be responsible for the coordination and oversight of the club's sporting area activities and will work closely with the club's CEO Ivan Gazidis and the newly appointed technical director Paolo Maldini."
