Manchester United could fork over as much as £100 million for Borussia Dortmund prodigy Jadon Sancho if an arms race with Paris Saint-Germain escalates.

United and PSG have identified Sancho, 18, as their preferred target in the summer transfer window, according to The Telegraph's James Ducker, increasing the chances of a bidding war.

Sancho catapulted himself to fame after a series of explosive performances for Dortmund in the Bundesliga and Champions League.

Frustrated by a lack of guarantees at Manchester City, the teenager joined Dortmund in 2017 for a paltry £8 million. BVB could now demand somewhere close to £100 million, which would make Sancho the most expensive English footballer ever. City full-back Kyle Walker is currently the most costly at £54 million.

United's interest in Sancho would also cast doubt over Alexis Sanchez's future. Despite earning a reported £500,000 a week, including bonuses and other add-ons, Sanchez has failed to make an impression since joining the club in January 2018.

Sanchez's hefty salary has made it difficult for United to find a buyer, but Ducker believes concessions from both club and player could facilitate an exit.

PSG, meanwhile, have a history of investing big money in youth, spending €180 million (£166 million) to sign Kylian Mbappe from AS Monaco in 2017. They were also in reported discussions with Ajax over midfielder Frenkie De Jong, who snubbed the French giants in January to join Barcelona at the end of the season.
