Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean believes he could've died in his fiery crash Sunday at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Grosjean said he "saw death coming" and fought to get out of the wreckage for his children, according to Andrew Benson of BBC Sport.

The Haas driver managed to escape with minor injuries - burns on the back of his hands - after crashing at 137 mph.

Grosjean, who will remain in hospital on Tuesday, said he wants to race again during the 2020 season.

"I would say there is a feeling of being happy to be alive, of seeing things differently," the 34-year-old Frenchman said. "But also there is the need to get back in the car, if possible in Abu Dhabi."

He added that he wants to race in Abu Dhabi to finish his F1 story "in a different way."

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which takes place from Dec. 13-15, is the last event on the F1 calendar. Grosjean is leaving Haas after the season.
