Verstappen picks up 1st win of season at 70th Anniversary Grand Prix
Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen collected his first win of the Formula 1 season after finishing first during Sunday's 70th Anniversary Grand Prix at Silverstone.
Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas finished second and third, respectively.
The victory marked Verstappen's ninth career F1 win.
"We had a lot of pace in the car," the 22-year-old Belgian-Dutch driver said postrace. "We kept pushing. We had a great day … we had the right strategy. I tried to put the pressure on (Mercedes) and they had to pit."
Hamilton, who's the reigning world champion, was gracious in defeat.
"Congratulations to Red Bull and to Max," Hamilton said. "They didn't have the blistering problems on the tires that we had today. It's unexpected, but I'm sure the team will work out what the issues have been. At the end, I was driving with half a tire."
