Chelsea's Edouard Mendy and Real Madrid's Ferland Mendy expressed their frustrations after media outlets mistakenly used their images in reports about Manchester City's Benjamin Mendy, who has been charged with multiple counts of rape.

"Sad to see that in 2021, in France as well as in England, for some, Black people have neither names nor distinct faces," Edouard wrote in a story posted on his Instagram page, according to Reuters. "These 'mistakes' of photos appear anecdotal, but actually they are quite the opposite, they are highly symbolic.

"It's not that complicated to differentiate two faces, especially when the football jersey is of valuable help!"

Edouard and Ferland Mendy, who are cousins, shared screenshots of multiple media outlets using their pictures for reports about Benjamin Mendy.

Police arrested the Manchester City defender in August and charged him with four counts of rape and one of sexual assault. Benjamin Mendy, who Manchester City suspended shortly after his arrest, was charged with two additional counts of rape on Tuesday.
