Real Madrid are expected to be without their marquee summer signing for Saturday's season-opening match against Celta Vigo - and possibly longer - with news that Eden Hazard is dealing with a thigh injury.

Hazard suffered the injury to his left thigh during Friday's training session.

The club says they will continue to monitor the injury, but Marca's Ruben Jimenez reports the knock is set to keep Hazard out of action for a few weeks.

Meanwhile, Belgian reporter Kristof Terreur of HLN reported that the injury is actually to Hazard's hamstring and is not severe.

The injury could pave the way for outcasts such as Gareth Bale or James Rodriguez to make an appearance in manager Zinedine Zidane's squad during Hazard's absence.

The 28-year-old Hazard joined Real Madrid in June for a reported fee of €100 million after spending seven trophy-laden years at Chelsea.
