Real Madrid have apparently identified Christian Eriksen as a possible arrival during a summer overhaul at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Los Blancos, whose 2-0 home defeat to Real Sociedad on Sunday left them fifth in La Liga after 18 matches, view the Tottenham Hotspur playmaker as a more obtainable piece than Chelsea's Eden Hazard, according to The Independent's Miguel Delaney. They are prepared to spend £100 million on the 26-year-old and, to release the funds necessary for a deal, may use Isco as a makeweight or have him leave as part of a clear-out.

Both Eriksen and Hazard's respective contracts are set to expire in 2020, but Real Madrid believe Tottenham are the likeliest to succumb to an approach. Delaney understands there has "already been contact between intermediaries representing the parties."

Hazard has been linked to the ailing European champions for a couple of years, but Blues manager Maurizio Sarri is desperate to see a resolution to his protracted contract saga despite his discomfort operating as a false nine and the club's €64-million move for Christian Pulisic in early January.

Eriksen has previously been on Barcelona's radar and is apparently open to testing himself in a different footballing environment in his prime. Spurs are reportedly willing to offer the Dane around £200,000 to £250,000 a week to keep him in north London, and he will sign if transfers to Barcelona and Real Madrid collapse. Bayern Munich have also been mooted as potential suitors for Eriksen.

Real Madrid have previously purchased Luka Modric and Gareth Bale from Tottenham, so are aware of what a tough negotiator chairman Daniel Levy is.
