Report: Sturridge close to signing lucrative Trabzonspor contract
Daniel Sturridge is on the verge of joining Turkish club Trabzonspor on an initial two-year contract worth just under £3 million per season, sources told ESPN FC's Melissa Reddy.
The 29-year-old was reportedly in talks with D.C. United before flying to Turkey for negotiations. The MLS side apparently had reservations over the player's persistent hip and hamstring issues.
Despite his injury history, Sturridge has received up to 13 offers from the United States, Qatar, Spain, and Turkey since his contract with Liverpool expired in June, according to ESPN FC's Jeff Carlisle.
Fenerbahce were reportedly prepared to hand the English striker £10 million over three years, but Trabzonspor apparently beat their rivals to the signing.
Reddy believes Sturridge may also have the option to extend the deal by another 12 months.
Sturridge spent the past six seasons at Liverpool, scoring 67 goals in 160 appearances and winning the Champions League as a bit-part member of Jurgen Klopp's squad.
