London, Sept 13, 2022 (AFP) - Sheffield United left it late to maintain their strong start to the season as the Championship leaders won 1-0 at Swansea on Tuesday

Paul Heckingbottom's side were seconds away from a goalless stalemate when two of the players sent on by the Blades manager combined in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Former Swansea loanee Rhian Brewster evaded Kyle Naughton and set up Reda Khadra for a clinical finish that moved United four points clear of second placed Norwich.

Fifth placed Burnley had to settle for a 1-1 draw in the Lancashire derby at Preston.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis put Vincent Kompany's Burnley ahead after 10 minutes but Jordan Storey hit the equaliser five minutes later.

Blackburn climbed to third place after an impressive 2-0 victory over promotion rivals Watford at Ewood Park.

Ryan Hedges grabbed his first goal for Blackburn when he tapped in Tyrhys Dolan's cross in the 38th minute and Dominic Hyam sealed the points in the closing stages.

Huddersfield lost 2-1 at home to Wigan as Callum Lang's 82nd-minute goal stole the points for the Latics.

Tom Lees had equalised for Huddersfield with 14 minutes left after Will Keane opened the scoring with a first-half penalty.

Huddersfield have suffered six defeats from eight games, just months after reaching the Championship play-off final, where they were denied a place in the Premier League by Nottingham Forest.

Cardiff won 3-2 at Middlesbrough after surviving a late fightback from the hosts.

Callum O'Dowda, Mark Harris and Perry Ng put the visitors into a three-goal lead at half-time.

Duncan Watmore and Rodrigo Muniz reduced the deficit but Middlesbrough now sit two places above the bottom three after failing to complete the comeback.

Lewis Baker's brace for Stoke earned new manager Alex Neil a first victory with a 3-0 win at Hull.

Baker grabbed a goal in each half, with Ben Wilmot also on target as former Sunderland boss Neil got his maiden Potters victory at the third attempt.
