Championship roundup: Promotion-chasing Forest relegate Peterborough

London, April 23, 2022 (AFP) - Peterborough were relegated from the Championship on Saturday as Sam Surridge gave promotion chasing Nottingham Forest a 1-0 win at London Road.

Forest striker Surridge bagged the only goal on the stroke of half-time with a header that left Steve Cooper's fourth placed side almost certain of a play-off spot.

Third bottom Peterborough were condemned to League One with two games left as they fell seven points adrift of fourth bottom Reading.

Dominic Solanke scored a dramatic stoppage-time penalty to give Bournemouth a vital 1-1 draw at home to Fulham and put the already-promoted Cottagers' Championship title celebrations on hold.

Solanke's last-gasp spot-kick cancelled out Aleksander Mitrovic's 41st goal of the season to claim what could be a crucial point for the second-placed Cherries' automatic-promotion hopes.

Bournemouth are two points clear of third placed Huddersfield with two games in hand.

The Blades stay sixth, three points ahead of seventh placed Millwall with two games remaining.

Millwall striker Benik Afobe netted a stoppage-time penalty to rescue a 2-2 draw at Birmingham.

Juninho Bacuna opened the scoring for Birmingham after only 67 seconds of the second half before Oliver Burke equalised for Millwall from close-range.

Lyle Taylor looked as though he had earned Birmingham their first win in four when he slotted home from the penalty spot, but Afobe's penalty nine minutes into stoppage-time kept Millwall in the hunt.
