London, Jan 2, 2022 (AFP) - Blackburn were unable to bolster their bid for promotion to the Premier League as Huddersfield earned a 0-0 draw at Ewood Park on Sunday.

With Championship promotion rivals Bournemouth and Fulham out of action due to coronavirus postponements, Blackburn had a chance to apply pressure in the race for a top-two finish.

But Tony Mowbray's side were frustrated by the resolute Terriers, who withstood early Blackburn pressure which saw Reda Khadra hit the woodwork.

Sam Gallagher saw an effort cleared off the line late on, but Rovers could not find the breakthrough to extend their six-match winning run.

They are unbeaten in nine games and move up to second place, a point ahead of Fulham who have played two fewer games.

Fourth placed West Bromwich Albion had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Cardiff at the Hawthorns.

James Collins put Cardiff ahead before the break but Callum Robinson equalised early in the second half.

Albion's hopes of getting all three points disappeared with Alex Mowatt's 76th-minute dismissal and there were two further red cards at the end as tempers boiled over.

West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone and Cardiff defender Aden Flint were both dismissed after a melee involving most of the players.

QPR moved up to fifth place with a hard-fought 2-1 victory at Birmingham.

Albert Adomah's 14th-minute strike opened the scoring for QPR before Chris Willock's effort in the 71st minute doubled their lead.

Chuks Aneke smashed home to reduce the deficit four minutes later but QPR held on for a second successive win.

Andreas Weimann hit a hat-trick as Bristol City beat Millwall 3-2 at Ashton Gate.

Weimann put City ahead in the first half before Tom Bradshaw equalised an Benik Afobe converted a penalty to give Millwall the lead before the break.

Weimann equalised in the 73rd minute and completed his treble five minutes from time, firing home after Alex Scott's shot was blocked on the line.

It was only Nigel Pearson's fourth win in 21 home games as City boss.
