The Football Association, Premier League, and the English Football League confirmed the 2019-20 season won't resume until at least April 30 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

English football was initially suspended until April 4 before it was decided at Thursday's emergency meeting to postpone the season even further.

Rather than accepting the current standings as final, football officials reiterated their desire to complete the current campaign with the summer schedule cleared up following confirmation earlier this week that Euro 2020 has been pushed back a year.

"We are united in our commitment to finding ways of resuming the 2019-20 football season and ensuring all domestic and European club league and cup matches are played as soon as it is safe and possible to do so," read the statement.

"We have collectively supported UEFA in postponing EURO 2020 to create space in the calendar to ensure domestic and European club league and cup matches have an increased opportunity to be played and, in doing so, maintain the integrity of each competition," the statement continued.

Current rules and regulations state the season will terminate no later than June 1, but the FA's board agreed to extend the 2019-20 campaign "indefinitely" due to uncertainty over when it will be safe to resume play.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday UEFA expressed its desire for Europe's leagues to complete their respective seasons by June 30, while also cautioning that play will only resume when it's "appropriate and prudent" to do so.

Completing seasons in the summer could be dependent on traveling and mass-gathering restrictions being lifted. However, seasons could continue behind closed doors without fans.

The EFL announced Wednesday it will assist clubs with a £50-million short-term relief package to help alleviate financial hardships the coronavirus pandemic is causing.
