Report: Wolves keen to pinch Chelsea striker Abraham from Villa

Wolverhampton Wanderers sit ninth in the Premier League and it appears they are keen to boost their firepower in what has thus far been a successful return to England's top flight.

The promoted club is interested in signing Chelsea's young striker Tammy Abraham during this month's transfer window, according to BBC Sport's Simon Stone.

The 21-year-old is currently on loan at Championship side Aston Villa and has scored 16 goals in 20 games. The twice-capped England international has not gone more than three games in a row this term without finding the net and notably scored four in the 5-5 draw with Nottingham Forest in late November.

Chelsea, for whom Abraham is yet to make a senior start, would have to recall the forward this month to facilitate a permanent deal. Wolves are looking to exploit a break clause in his Villa contract to sign him permanently in the January market, according to Stone.

Though Abraham already turned out for the Blues this season prior to his Villa switch, he would not fall foul of FIFA rules prohibiting a player of appearing for more than two clubs in one season, as his Chelsea appearance came in the preseason Community Shield clash rather than an official game.

However, Abraham is not for sale as far as Chelsea are concerned, according to Sky Sports' Lyall Thomas.

Meanwhile, Villa boss Dean Smith said: "Tammy has shown no inclination to go back to Chelsea. In the conversations I've had with him, he is enjoying himself at Villa and is developing as a player.

"Chelsea seem very happy, as he is developing as a player and scoring goals in the Championship. For all three parties, it is win, win, win. So, I would be amazed if anything happened to prevent him playing for Villa."
