Chelsea are on the verge of beating Arsenal to sign Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhailo Mudryk.

The Ukrainian club confirmed the Blues are "very close" to completing a deal for the 22-year-old winger after talks between Shakhtar president Rinat Akhmetov and Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali on Saturday.

It's understood Chelsea will pay an initial €70 million in a deal that could rise to €100 million after €30 million in add-ons were included in the agreement, reports The Athletic.

Mudryk and his representatives have also agreed to personal terms over a seven-year contract that reportedly includes an option to extend Mudryk's stay at Stamford Bridge beyond 2030, The Athletic adds.

Arsenal were originally among the favorites to add the talented Ukraine international, who was named Shakhtar's player of the year for 2022. The Gunners reportedly tabled a similar offer, and talks between Arsenal and Shakhtar officials took place as recently as Saturday.

But it appears that Chelsea have edged their Premier League opponents by the narrowest of margins, as Mudryk flies to London to complete the deal and put pen to paper on a contract that will officially make him a Blue.

Mudryk's imminent arrival could spell the end of Chelsea's search for attacking reinforcement. His recruitment comes less than a week after the club signed Portuguese forward Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid.

Graham Potter's Chelsea currently sit 10th in the Premier League after going winless in their last three Premier League games.

Mudryk is in the midst of a breakout season with Shakhtar with seven goals and six assists in 12 league matches.
