Raheem Sterling hopes to rejoin England's World Cup camp with time to prepare for Saturday's quarterfinal against France, according to The Guardian's Jacob Steinberg and David Hynter.

Sterling was left out of the last-16 win over Senegal on Sunday because he returned to the United Kingdom after a break-in at his property. The Chelsea attacker wants to ensure his home is secure before returning to England's Al Wakrah base in Qatar on Thursday.

Sterling's family was reportedly at home during the robbery. The incident apparently left the 27-year-old "shaken" and worried for the safety of his fiancee and three children.

"At the moment, clearly the priority is for him to be with his family," England manager Gareth Southgate said after the 3-0 victory over Senegal. "We're going to support that and leave him to have as much time as he needs."

Sterling appears unlikely to immediately reclaim a place in the Three Lions' starting XI. Southgate will first need to assess whether the experienced winger is in the right frame of mind to play.

After starting the opening two matches of England's World Cup campaign, Sterling remained on the bench against Wales. Since then, Marcus Rashford, Phil Foden, and Bukayo Saka have all impressed in the attacking positions on either side of striker Harry Kane.
