Premier League newcomers Nottingham Forest are close to agreeing to a deal with Jesse Lingard, beating West Ham United to the midfielder's signature, according to The Guardian's Jacob Steinberg.

West Ham were reportedly keen on bringing Lingard back to the London Stadium following his impressive loan spell with the club two years ago. He's available on a free transfer after his Manchester United contract expired.

However, they're getting pipped at the final hurdle by Forest and are running out of ways to convince the 32-time England international to return to West Ham, The Athletic's Roshane Thomas reports.

The signing would present a major coup for Forest, who are returning to the top flight after 23 years in the country's second and third tiers.
