Norwich City fired Daniel Farke as manager hours after picking up their first win of the Premier League season.

The Canaries went 20 consecutive top-flight matches without a victory before Saturday's 2-1 result at Brentford.

"In continuing to demand the very best for our football club, this decision was not an easy one," sporting director Stuart Webber said in a statement. "I know how determined Daniel and his staff were to succeed at this level, but we feel that now is the right time for a change to give ourselves the best opportunity of retaining our Premier League status."

The club is last in the table with just five points from 11 matches.

Farke won 87 of his 208 matches in charge of the club but just six of 49 games in the Premier League.

The German tactician left Borussia Dortmund's reserve team to manage Norwich in May 2017, and after an indifferent 2017-18 season in the Championship, the 45-year-old led the club back to the Premier League with a first-place finish in the second tier.

Despite wowing the Championship with their high-pressing football, Norwich struggled to adapt to the rigors of the top flight, suffering relegation in 20th place in the 2019-20 Premier League campaign.

In keeping with their status as one of England's yo-yo clubs, Norwich again secured promotion the following season but ran into familiar problems upon their second trip back to the Premier League, scoring just five goals while allowing 26 through 11 matches.

Norwich will now have the upcoming international break to sort out their managerial vacancy.
