Goalkeeper Alisson's 95th-minute header gleaned a 2-1 win for Liverpool at West Bromwich Albion on Sunday and kept his side's Champions League qualification hopes alive.

The Brazilian shot-stopper went upfield for a late corner and rose unmarked to nod inside the far post.

Alisson is the first goalkeeper in Premier League history to find the net with a header. The previous five netminders to score a goal are Peter Schmeichel, Brad Friedel, Paul Robinson, Tim Howard, and Asmir Begovic.

Alisson is suffering through a difficult period in his life after his father drowned while swimming on his property in Brazil in February.

"I'm too emotional ... this last month, for everything that happened with me and my family. But football is my life, I (have) played since I (can) remember as a human being with my father. I hope he was here to see it," Alisson told Sky Sports.

Liverpool were on course to drop two points and potentially damage their chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season. Hal Robson-Kanu opened the scoring for the home side and Liverpool could only respond through Mohamed Salah's first-half equalizer before Alisson's remarkable last-gasp winner.

West Brom, who are already relegated, had a goal to give them the lead for the second time controversially disallowed in the 71st minute.

Battle for top four with two matches remaining:

# Team GD Points
1 Manchester City +47 83
2 Manchester United +28 70
3 Leicester City +21 66
4 Chelsea +22 64
5 Liverpool +21 63
6 Tottenham Hotspur +22 59

"I've been away from interviews for a long time - it was a difficult time - because always when I talk about it I get emotional on that," Alisson admitted before thanking the league, rival teams, and supporters for their messages over the last three months.

He added: "I don't know how to celebrate. Hopefully, I don't need to come so many times to the box to score a goal. Hopefully, our players will do that for me."
