Lampard upset after VAR officials admit error: 'It's not good enough'

It's safe to presume Frank Lampard isn't a proponent of VAR after yet another decision went against Chelsea during Saturday's encounter versus Tottenham Hotspur.

VAR officials admitted midgame that a mistake was made which should have resulted in Spurs going down a man. They attributed the mistake to "human error."

Chelsea went on to secure an important 2-1 victory.

But for Lampard - who experienced a similar incident during Chelsea's loss to Manchester United last weekend when Harry Maguire escaped a red card for kicking Michy Batshuayi - it was too little too late.

"It is not good enough, that is two VARs in two games, it is hard to shout about it when you have lost but today everybody saw that," Lampard told reporters, according to ESPN FC. "It is a red.

"I hate to call for red cards but that is a leg breaker. I am not saying about referees on the spot, VAR is here to clear things up and it is not good enough."

The Chelsea manager was up in arms after Spurs midfielder Giovani Lo Celso wasn't handed a red card for his stamp on Cesar Azpilicueta in the second half at Stamford Bridge following a VAR review.

Saturday's victory - Lampard's third consecutive against his former manager Jose Mourinho - gives fourth-place Chelsea a four-point edge over Tottenham to boost their hopes of securing a Champions League spot for next season.
