Edu could be on his way back to Arsenal.

The former Invincible is reportedly set to take the north London lot's vacant technical director job, with the two sides agreeing to a deal in principle, according to the Guardian's Fabrizio Romano.

Edu will first see out his duties in a similar role with the Brazilian national team. Tite's charges kick off this summer's Copa America on June 14 versus Bolivia, with the tournament slated to end July 7.

The Brazilian's impending appointment comes as part of a backroom shuffle at Arsenal. Sven Mislintat stepped down as the club's head of recruitment in February after he was overlooked for the technical director position, a role Monchi turned down prior to returning to Sevilla.

It's expected that Edu will work alongside director of football Raul Sanllehi and managing director Vinai Venkatesham.

Edu made 127 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal, including 30 league outings during the club's 2003-04 undefeated campaign.

The ex-Gunner was reportedly first approached by Arsenal in January, with the club also linked at the time with another former player, Ajax director of football Marc Overmars, as well as Marseille's Andoni Zubizarreta.
