Manchester City are close to signing Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes for €55 million, according to the Guardian's Fabrizio Romano.

Negotiations are reportedly at an advanced stage.

Fernandes, who has 19 goals and 13 assists in the Primeira Liga this season, could replace either Ilkay Gundogan or David Silva in City's lineup. Gundogan has stalled on signing a new contract while Silva is reportedly weighing up a move to Japan.

City have also been linked with Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri, who has a €70-million release clause. The Telegraph's James Ducker reported in April that City would be prepared to pay a club-record fee for the talented Spaniard, who has drawn parallels with Barcelona counterpart Sergio Busquets.
