Ashley Cole could be returning to England for a final flourish.

England's sixth-most capped player of all time is set to sign with Derby County until the end of the season, The Telegraph's Sam Wallace reports.

The move would see Cole - currently out of contract after the LA Galaxy declined to extend his deal - reunite with former Chelsea and Three Lions teammate and current Derby manager Frank Lampard.

Lampard and the Rams have reportedly been lining up the deal since before Christmas and owner Mel Morris is prepared to support his manager in bringing the left-back to Pride Park.

A 13-year England veteran from 2001-2014 and a three-time Premier League winner, Cole will add huge experience to Derby's back line on a short-term deal. He has close to 600 games in English football with Arsenal and the Blues under his belt and played 94 times in three MLS seasons for the Galaxy.

Though he has been out of contract since November, the 38-year-old keeps himself in top physical condition and will likely be ready to step in immediately once the deal is completed.

Derby have rotated their left-back spot throughout the current campaign, generally alternating between Scott Malone and Craig Forsyth with young talent Max Lowe out on loan at Scottish side Aberdeen.
