Zlatan Ibrahimovic has signed for the LA Galaxy in a two-year deal that runs until 2019, a source told Grant Wahl of Sports Illustrated, who reports the star striker will be paid $1.5 million per year - the maximum possible using Targeted Allocation Money (TAM).

His signing was also reported by Kevin Baxter of the Los Angeles Times.

The deal is set to be officially announced with a full-page advertisement in Friday's L.A. Times, according to Wahl, and confirms an initial report by ESPN FC's Mark Ogden stating that the 36-year-old had played his last match for Manchester United and was allowed to leave Old Trafford by manager Jose Mourinho.

The former Paris Saint-Germain striker had been linked with the LA Galaxy for some time, and was spotted house-hunting in the city in February. He has less than four months remaining on his current United contract, and Mourinho said in January that he and the club were "here to help" make a move to MLS possible, should Ibrahimovic desire it.

Paying Ibrahimovic with TAM funds circumvents the MLS roster limit of three Designated Players, with the Galaxy already employing both Giovani and Jonathan Dos Santos, as well as Romain Alessandrini.

Ibrahimovic made the switch to Manchester United in July 2016, and went on to enjoy an excellent debut campaign in the Premier League, scoring 28 times and helping his team en route to clinching the Europa League trophy. However, he suffered a serious knee injury that ruled him out for the opening half of the 2017-18 season, and has been limited to just seven appearances as a result.

He's "determined" to carry on with his playing career, according to Ogden. Ibrahimovic last featured for United as a substitute in a home draw against Burnley on Dec. 26.

Wahl adds that Ibrahimovic could be available for the Galaxy's first-ever match with local rival Los Angeles FC, slated for March 31 at the StubHub Center.
