Paris Saint-Germain immediately turned down Real Madrid's €160-million offer for Kylian Mbappe and warned the Spanish giants they'd refuse an even higher bid in the future, according to ESPN's Julien Laurens.

Mbappe only has one year remaining on his contract and reportedly rejected at least three different proposals from PSG.

PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi previously said Mbappe has "no reason" to leave the club and pointed to Lionel Messi's addition as proof of the team's competitiveness.

But unlike Neymar - who agreed to terms in May on a new four-year contract worth around €30 million per season - Mbappe has taken his time to determine his next step. The 22-year-old said in January he would only make a long-term commitment to PSG if he were to re-sign.

"I am very happy here. I have always been very happy," the World Cup winner said. "The supporters and the club have always helped me, and for that alone, I will always be grateful.

"But I want to think about what I want to do in the coming years, where I want to be. That's what I am reflecting on."

Madrid apparently sense an opportunity to strike a deal for one of the game's brightest stars, even if it takes a club-record fee to pull off.

Eden Hazard is currently Los Blancos' most expensive signing at €115 million.

Madrid managed to report a roughly €900,000 post-tax profit in its most recent financial accounts despite losing about €300 million in revenue due to the pandemic.

David Alaba, who joined the club on a free transfer from Bayern Munich, remains Madrid's only summer recruit. Conversely, they've raised around €75 million by selling Raphael Varane and Martin Odegaard to Manchester United and Arsenal, respectively.

Mbappe has scored 133 goals in 174 appearances since joining PSG from AS Monaco in September 2017 for a reported €180 million.
