Ronaldo: 'Maybe that's why Juventus signed me'

All in a day's work for Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Juventus superstar scored all three of the Bianconeri's goals against Atletico Madrid in Tuesday's second leg, sending his side into the Champions League quarterfinals with a sensational 3-2 aggregate comeback win.

Following another heroic performance in Europe's premier competition, the lethal marksman was rather measured in his assessment.

"Maybe that's why Juventus signed me," he told Sky Italia, courtesy of CNN's James Masters. "To help it do things that it had never done before. This result is a great push for the future, we're strong and we showed it."

Ronaldo's goal rush set more individual Champions League records and drew him level with Lionel Messi for the most hat-tricks in the competition with eight. Suddenly, the €100-million transfer fee that Juventus splurged on the veteran last summer isn't looking too bad.

Juventus have joined Ajax, Manchester City, Manchester United, FC Porto, and Tottenham in the final eight of the Champions League. Two from Wednesday's reverse fixtures - Barcelona host Lyon, and Liverpool travel to Bayern Munich - will join the Old Lady in Friday's quarterfinal draw.

Ronaldo's former employers, Real Madrid, were turfed out of the tournament last week by Ajax.
