Schalke have fined midfielder Amine Harit for attending a "corona party" at a shisha bar despite a government-imposed curfew in Germany.

Police caught Harit and 10 others at the bar in Essen past midnight on March 19, an incident Schalke sporting executive Jochen Schneider later confirmed.

"That's true," Schneider said, per ESPN UK's Stephan Uersfeld. "But there are more important things than the fine for the lad." Schneider added that Harit was sorry for his behaviour.

According to a report from German outlet Bild, Harit has been fined €100,000, with €30,000 going toward a joint initiative between Schalke and the club's ultras to aid at-risk people during the spread of the coronavirus.

Prior to the incident involving Harit, the German government instituted a nationwide contact ban while imposing a 6 p.m. curfew for businesses.

Moroccan international Harit, 22, joined the Bundesliga side in 2017 from Nantes and has been one of Schalke's standout players this season with six goals in 24 league outings.
