Reigning MVP Joe Johnson is returning to the BIG3 to help the Triplets defend their 2019 title, reports Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes.

In his first season with the league last year, Johnson led the BIG3 in total points (175), assists (31), field goals (63), and 4-pointers (4). The former seven-time NBA All-Star also averaged 21.9 points per game.

Johnson's standout performance in the BIG3 also earned him a non-guaranteed contract last summer with the Detroit Pistons. However, the team cut him from its roster one day before the start of the 2019-20 season.

The 38-year-old owns career averages of 16 points, four rebounds, and 3.9 assists across 17 years in the NBA. His last official appearance in the Association came during the 2018 postseason with the Houston Rockets.
