Watch: Kinsler stone-faced as he runs bases after 2-run HR

Kelvin Kuo / USA TODAY Sports

Ian Kinsler stayed true to his word.

The United States second baseman received plenty of flack Wednesday when he publicly expressed his hope that children will prefer American-style baseball to the flamboyant, eccentric manner in which the Puerto Rican and Dominican teams play.

In the third inning of the World Baseball Classic finale, Kinsler gave himself a chance to support his claims by mashing a two-run homer to give the Americans a 2-0 lead in the third inning.

Though he walked back his controversial comments before the contest, the Detroit Tigers second baseman still displayed little to no emotion on the basepaths, keeping a calm demeanor as he crossed home. He did, however, eventually crack a smile in the dugout.
