Athletics' Davis won't play for Mexico at WBC

Khris Davis is having a change of heart regarding his March plans.

Though he was named on Team Mexico's roster for the World Baseball Classic, the Athletics outfielder confirmed Sunday that he will skip the tournament to remain with his club and prepare for the 2017 season.

"I kind of feel overextended personally," Davis said, according to Jane Lee of MLB.com.

Losing Davis is a big blow to Mexico's hopes of contending in the tournament, as they could also be without Adrian Gonzalez, who is dealing with an injury.

The 29-year-old Davis mashed 42 home runs and drove in 102 runs - both career highs - last season with Oakland while batting .247/.307/.524 in 150 games.

Davis, who was born in Lakewood, Calif., was eligible to play for Mexico through his mother.
