Former Florida defensive lineman Caleb Brantley has been charged with misdemeanor assault after allegedly rendering a woman unconscious and knocking one of her teeth out in an altercation April 13, according to multiple reports.

News of the early-morning incident first surfaced later that day. According to initial reports, police said Brantley pushed 20-year-old Chelsea Austin away after she hit him in the face outside a Florida bar. Austin admitted punching Brantley but said he'd punched her in the face rather than shoving her.

Police confirmed charges weren't filed at the time, and neither party identified themselves as the victim. A source told WTSP that Austin was later admitted to hospital to receive treatment for her injuries.

According to police documents excerpted Sunday by Patrick Pinak of Alligator Sports, Austin pushed Brantley and then Brantley struck her in the face, knocking her unconscious and displacing a tooth.

The altercation apparently began after Brantley made "crude comments."

The charge comes days before the 2017 draft, where Brantley's been considered a potential early round selection.
